Born in 1857, Ella Sharp was a generous Jackson native. During her life, she had many passions, one of which was forest preservation. She is well remembered for being the first woman in the state of Michigan to take up forestry as a cause. In passing, Ella left her 530-acre farm to the City of Jackson. Today, her property includes seven art galleries, her original home, a village that resembles what you would have found during the Civil War, and a 563-acre park.
